History of Allandale
Allandale is near Boonah.
This area is in south east Queensland.
Allandale State School had its first students enrolled on 27.02.1928. On that day 13 children from 8 different families enrolled. The last child enrolled was on 30.01.1963 and the school closed part way through 1963. The few children remaining at the school then attended either Milford State School or Boonah State School.
On 10th May 1926 a letter was sent to the Under Secretary, Department of Public Instruction, Brisbane requesting the opening of a new school -
"Dear Sir:
The residents on the Boonah-Cannon Creek Road are desirous of having a school established at their centre. They have 19 pupils who could attend this school, and many more prospective pupils.
I would be pleased if you would send the necessary papers to Mr. T. A. Elliott, The Cedars, Boonah.
Yours faithfully
E W Bell."
A report re establishment of school, was written by Inspector W. Earnshaw, from Eagle Junction, dated September 24th, 1926.
"Sir,
I have the honour to inform you that, in accordance with your instructions, I held an enquiry on the 23rd instant into the application for the establishment of a state school at Allan's Creek Road, near Boonah.
The site of the school is 3.4 miles from the Boonah Rural school. The district is hilly. The people are dairy farmers, and all own the land on which they live except Lynch and Richards.
There are children from 12 families of school age.Fourteen of these children would probably attend the school. The other 5 are more or less doubtful. The 3 children of H. O. Bartholomai and C. A. Bartholomai live 2 and 2 1/4 miles respectively from Boonah school which they now attend. One or two of these may still go to Boonah. Two children, Lynch and Richards, are half-castes, and their fathers are casual labourers. Kevin Lynch is only 5 years old and lives 4 1/2 miles from the proposed school site.
There are 13 children under 5 years. There is land for settlement in the neighbourhood, and some prospect of its being occupied.
There are two sites. Both are private property. That on portion 178, marked with a red dot on the plan, and opposite the junction of the two roads is the more central. the land is poor. The owner G. Vogler asks 10 pound per acre for it; it is worth about 10/- per acre, - probably less. I informed the applicants that it was usual to give the site for a country school, and that the minimum area was 5 acres.
The accommodation ofered by Mrs. Charles Bartholomai, who lives about one mile from the school site, is quite satisafactory.
I recommend that a school be established at Allan's Creek Road, onportion 178, and that the residents be invited to select a less cumbrous name for it, e.g. Allandale.
I have the hounur to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,
W. Earnshaw. "
